KATHMANDU, NEPAL – Tesla Inc., the global pioneer in electric vehicles (EVs), has officially partnered with Tesla Nepal Pvt. Ltd. to bring factory-priced EVs to the Nepali market. The collaboration marks a dramatic shift in Nepal’s EV landscape, offering 40% cheaper vehicles, plans to import 50 units initially, and an ambitious charging network expansion across six cities in the next decade.

“Tesla is Here”: What This Means for Nepal

After four years of negotiations, Tesla Nepal has secured authorized dealership rights, paving the way for a robust EV ecosystem in the country. Speaking about the milestone, Tesla Nepal CEO Surendra Koirala said:
“This partnership ensures affordability, accessibility, and world-class after-sales services for Nepali EV enthusiasts.”

This announcement spells the end of premium retail pricing that previously made Tesla vehicles inaccessible to most Nepali consumers.

Key Figures: Showrooms, Charging Stations, and Lower Prices

Tesla Nepal has laid out an aggressive plan to establish a strong footprint in Nepal:

    1. Showrooms: The first Tesla showroom is under construction in Baluwatar, Kathmandu, with a second planned for Jhamsikhel, Lalitpur.
    2. Service Center: A three-ropani facility in Ekantakuna will feature five Tesla Superchargers for faster and more convenient charging.
    3. Charging Network Expansion: Tesla Nepal aims to cover major cities like Pokhara, Chitwan, Butwal, Biratnagar, and Jhapa by 2030.
    4. Price Drop: Entry-level Tesla models, such as the Model 3, will now be 40% cheaper than prior retail imports.

    First Fleet Expected in February

Tesla Nepal plans to bring 50 Tesla vehicles to Nepal in its initial phase, expected to arrive by February 2025. Although the exact lineup hasn’t been disclosed, popular models like the Model 3 are likely to lead the charge, given their affordability and performance.

    From Challenges to Opportunities

Previously, Tesla vehicles were available only through private imports, with significant retail markups and additional penalties of up to 30%. This limited their appeal to a niche audience. Now, Tesla’s authorized presence promises competitive pricing and comprehensive after-sales services, bridging a crucial gap in Nepal’s growing EV market.

Tesla’s entry could also help Nepal reach its sustainability goals, contributing to a greener future.

    Ambitious Goals for Sustainable Transportation

Tesla Nepal’s strategy aligns with global trends favoring EV adoption:

    • By 2030, Tesla Nepal aims to deploy an extensive charging network across six cities.
    • The affordable pricing could significantly boost EV adoption rates, potentially surpassing the country’s current goal of 20% electric vehicles by 2025.

CEO Koirala emphasized the importance of infrastructure development, saying,

“We’re not just selling cars; we’re building a sustainable ecosystem for the future.”

Tesla’s Commitment to Nepal’s EV Market

This partnership signals Tesla’s long-term vision for Nepal, combining affordability, accessibility, and cutting-edge technology. Industry experts believe Tesla’s presence could revolutionize the country’s automobile industry, setting a new benchmark for sustainability and innovation.
