Apple is set to launch its highly anticipated Apple Intelligence feature this October. However, for iPhone users whose language isn’t set to U.S. English, the wait could extend a little longer. Recent TV advertising in the U.K. confirms that Apple Intelligence will not be available there until December—an important detail that has slipped by some users.

Apple has been transparent about this timeline, though it may not have caught everyone’s attention. In their September 9 keynote, Apple specifically stated that Apple Intelligence would be available “starting next month.” The company further clarified in a press release: “Apple Intelligence features will first roll out in the U.S., followed by additional English-language support later this year.”

The full rollout plan is as follows: Apple Intelligence will initially launch in U.S. English and will later expand to localized English versions for Australia, Canada, New Zealand, South Africa, and the U.K. in December. Over the following year, support for more languages will be introduced, including Chinese, English (India), English (Singapore), French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Spanish, Vietnamese, and more.

For users in countries like the U.K., France, and Italy, this means Apple Intelligence will technically be available with the iOS 18.1 update. However, to access it immediately, users will need to set their iPhone’s device language and Siri language to U.S. English in the “Language and Region” settings. Initially, iOS 18.1 beta testers also had to set their region to the U.S., but Apple has since adjusted this requirement, as it could impact other aspects of the device like units of measurement.

It’s important to note that if your iPhone isn’t set to U.S. English, some features—especially those related to writing tools—may not work as expected.

EE, the British telecom network, recently aired a commercial highlighting this very delay. The ad humorously titled “Parent Duty” assures viewers that there is no deception regarding Apple Intelligence’s availability. The ad clarifies that while the feature launches in October for U.S. English, users in the U.K. will get access by December. The commercial, however, primarily focuses on other aspects like cinematic slow-motion capabilities on the iPhone 16 Pro and EE’s fast 5G network. Apple Intelligence is briefly mentioned at the end, with the new Siri animation flashing across a parent’s iPhone screen.
